on the big and small screen
The Whitby
area has become a star in its own right due to weekly appearances as the

you walk round Whitby.

If you watched Shackleton on Channel 4 can you believe that the scenes on the rocky South Atlantic beaches were actually filmed at Saltwick Nab, Whitby in June with artificial and computer generated snow.

Goathland Station, on the North York Moors Railway, was used in the Harry Potter film as Hogsmeade Station, viewed as the eager students arrive at the school on the Hogwarts Express.
The
1998 film One inch over the horizon (aka Captain Jack) starred Bob
Hoskins but to many the star of the film was Whitby itself as the setting for
the film which tells the tale of modern day Whitby legend Captain Jack.
More recently Whitby has been the host to Gwyneth Paltrow, filming A.S. Byatt's Booker-prize winning novel Possession.
